69801 1960-03-11 Darlington scrap yard

Two A5s, both allocated to 9G Gorton, Nos 69801/13 were brought to Darlington for scrapping. One wonders why they had to come so far…. The process is underway on 11th March 1960 and someone is at work inside the smokebox of No 69813 with the oxygen and acetylene pipes draped across the wooden ladder. Within a week both A5s had ceased to exist.
