42519 1959-06-13 Gas Factory Jct

Stanier 2-6-4T No.42519 passes Gas Factory Junction signal box with a train for Fenchurch Street on 13th June 1959, here the line to Stratford joins the main LT&SR main line and the train is passing over this junction. Until 1858 when a new line was opened between Gas Factory Junction and Barking the LT&SR trains had to travel via Stratford to reach Fenchurch Street. The track immediately to the right of No.42519 is a line down to the local goods yard, that to the right of the hut is a spur from the North London Railway Poplar line. The viaduct visible is part of the 41-arch structure from the Junction to Campbell Road Junction near Bromley and forms part of the 1858 new line. Note the overhead equipment which was an extension of the 1,500 volt dc electrification used on the Liverpool Street-Shenfield line.
