2286 1959-05-15 Machynlleth
GWR 2251 0-6-0 No 2286 at Machynlleth with the 5.40pm train to Pwllheli on May 15, 1959.
Peter Kerslake says "Built in 1936, 2286 worked on the Cambrian from July 1953 until August 1962 this engine being the last of six initially coupled to 4000 gallon tenders of Great Central Railway design and weighing 47 tons and acquired from condemned "Aberdare" class 2-6-0s.
It was allocated to Machynlleth which had nine of the class on its books in 1956. The first casualty was 2258, withdrawn in December 1958, whilst 2210 soldiered on as the last survivor until 1965."
