D1612 1965-08-21 Standish Junction

BR class 47 Co-Co No D1612 with a southbound tanker train (4V50) passing Standish Junction on 21 August 1965. Train 4V50 was the 10:40 Bromford Bridge Esso-Avonmouth

Peter Kerslake says "Recorded from the road bridge here at Standish Junction to the west of Gloucester this fuel tank working is crossing from the down Western Region line having run down the Gloucester avoiding line rather than traverse through Gloucester's Eastgate station but is now crossing over to the Midland Region main line to Bristol and beyond, whilst the Western Region line on the far left will shortly diverge away to Stroud and onwards to Swindon.
The straight and level stretch between here and Gloucester was somewhat of a race track with crews from both Regions enjoying regular "neck and neck" competitions in the days gone by !"
