1252 1949 Derby shed

Johnson Midland 0-4-4T (5’7”) No 1252 at Derby in 1949, carried the original style round topped boiler with Salter safety valves to the end of its career. Built 1876 and withdrawn January 1950 it was probably awaiting a decision on its fate at this time. Allocated No 58035 but not carried. Only 9 of the 5’7” Midland tanks were inherited by BR, most having been rebuilt with belpaire boilers. Last survivor (belpaire) No 58038 ex No 1261 withdrawn May ’54.
