4230 1947-09-06 Courteenhall Bridge

LMS Fowler '4F' class 0-6-0 No. 4230. Built at Derby in Feb. 1926 and withdrawn in Dec. 1959 as BR No. 44230. This magnificent September 1947 panorama shows the Northampton Loop Line at Courteenhall Bridge, Roade Junction, Northants. The WCML lines are in the foreground and the view is looking north towards Northampton. 4230 has a hefty train of at least 45 loaded wooden coal wagons many of which are former 'Private Owners' which have been pooled since 1939 - only the origins of Ocean and Stanton wagons can be discerned. The train is about to enter the very deep and impressive cutting at Roade.
