Grant Alderson provides the details "Ex LBSCR class E5 0-6-2T 32406 is just leaving Tunbridge Wells West, heading west (the headshunt is nearest the camera). The carriages are a "Three Set"of SECR Birdcage design with raised guards lookouts, cleaning the glass must have been difficult. It was taken on Monday 4th September 1950 by A. G. Ellis (he signed the rear of a print he set to me many years ago). The Route Discs signify it is a Tunbrridge Wells West to Eastbourne train. This is supported by '797' on the wider disc which is one of the "Loco Duty Numbers" for Eastbourne loco shed. This duty worked from Eastbourne to Tunbridge Wells and back in the morning and again in the afternoon. The shadows suggest this is the 7.0pm departure that arrives at Eastbourne at 8.39 pm".
