155 1912 Wolverhampton

155 1912 Wolverhampton

GWR Chancellor class 2-4-0 No 155 at Wolverhampton in 1912.

Peter Kerslake says "Chancellor" class 155 seen here in pristine condition was to be the last example to remain in service when withdrawn in May of 1920, the eight members of the class having been designed by Daniel Gooch but being built by the George England Company in 1862, the first standard gauge design of 2-4-0 to enter service with the G.W.R.
Numbered 149 to 156 the eight locomotives were put to use working from Wolverhampton, the location of this fine view with a few later going from Wolverhampton to Shrewsbury for use on long distance passenger workings as far west as Bristol although by their later years they were relegated to just local duties in and around the west midlands."
