10000 1949c Sandridge road bridge, St.Albans

10000 1949c Sandridge road bridge, St.Albans

Still in LMS colours and markings, the signal beyond the bridge is a LMS lattice post type.
Mr B G Williams says "This maybe Sandridge road bridge, Sandridge, St.Albans" and a 1971 footplate video confirms location as Sandridge Road bridge ( No.107), with up train. The top of the bridge has been raised with additional brickwork installed since 1949, but the wooden fence is still in situ up to the left hand parapet. The signal beyond the bridge having been replaced by a colour light.
10000 was completed in early December 1947 and went up to Euston on the 18th of that month, having earlier undergone trials from Derby. January 1948 saw it undergoing further trials out of St. Pancras on Derby and Manchester Central services, with the Dynamometer Car included in the train, followed by scheduled workings until July1948 when 10001 took over. The first recorded working of the two locomotives paired together was on 5th October 1948 when they ran from Euston to Carlisle and back, each with its own crew; with regular paired workings began in May 1949.
