10000 1950s Birmingham

10000 1950s Birmingham

The pioneer main-line diesel No.10000 in the mid-1950s in BR black with the cycling lion emblem. The location is the avoiding line between Aston and Stechford stations where the line runs along Aston Church Road. This photograph was taken from Warren Road bridge looking towards Aston. This scene changed considerably around 1959-60 when a number of small self-contained yards appeared alongside the line.

The Birmingham to Derby line runs left to right across the picture just this side of the gas holders and the large Metro Cammell works is on the right out of view. The lattice post type of signal was not common in the area
