The parcels van is an ex LMS coach converted to Ambulance Train vehicle for WW2 and then returned as a parcels vehicle. There were about 150 of them and the last one lasted until 1967.

Alnmouth shed provided MP for the Alnwick branch until it closed, following that the daily (later occasional) freight was a Tyne Yard duty and they often diagrammed a Clayton, or class 24 for this work. However the drivers were a little fond of speedy shunting and detrailments were far from uncommon, assistance coming in the form of the Gateshead breakdown train.
