LYR 0-4-4T 1960s Blackpool Central

LYR 0-4-4T 1960s Blackpool Central

A pair of withdrawn ex-L&YR Barton Wright 0-4-4Ts, each with one driving axle removed, were used as stationary boilers for carriage heating at Blackpool Central until the early 1960s. They were returned to Horwich Works periodically for servicing, their tall chimney extensions travelling with them attached, sitting horizontal to their boilers. Members of this class were used for similar duties throughout the former L&YR system and there has been much research into their original identities, but as they moved frequently it is not conclusive.Tony Roberts adds'I notice that the front steam chest cover has been removed, I wonder why?"
Tony Dale reminds up that "There was also a pair of similar locos at Blackpool North"
