David J. Hayes comments "A typical weekend line up in the midle of the yard This picture was most likely taken from a passenger train. This area of the Bescot Marshalling Yard complex was then known as the Down Local Sidings. The stabling of locomotives later took place in the former Up Yard Reception Sidings (now the site of the "Virtual Quarry"), which consisted of four electrified reception roads and a release line for the hump shunt engine. To the right of the stabled locomotives can be seen the inclined approach of the Down Yard Reception Sidings leading to the Down Yard Hump, beyond which can be seen the Down Storage Sidings".
