42464 1953-04 Ingleton MPD

42464 1953-04 Ingleton MPD

Ex-LMS Stanier '4P' class 2-6-4 Tank No. 42464. Built at Deby in October 1936 as LMS No. 2464 and withdrawn in August 1965.

Well now, this is quite something! Here Ingleton's wooden 'MPD', quite possibly the most ramshackle shed (more accurately-sub-shed) still in use in April 1953. The occupant is Oxenholme's 42464 and the vista is a modeller's delight. Surely no-one would believe it was actually deemed to be safe enough to house anything, let alone a steam locomotive? Given that the shed closed (fell down?) in January 1954, Ken Widd was fortunate indeed to capture this wonderful scene. Note the brazier positioned to keep the water tank from freezing, but not the shed from catching fire? Astonishing!
