Ex-LMS Stanier '4P' class 2-6-4 Tank No. 42461. Built at Derby in September 1936 as LMS No. 2461 and withdrawn in March 1964.
Leaving Buxton L&NWR Station in May 1951 with the 08.20am departure for Manchester, 42461 is getting into its stride and captured by renowned local photographer Ray Morten. The yard is still gas lit and the 'bothy' on the right looks to have a stove that would keep a Siberian winter at bay. Not that Buxton can't compete in the cold winter stakes!
