Peter Kerslake says "Built at Stratford in July 1923, initially numbered 1783 and then in 1925 as 8783 this "Claud Hamilton" led a distinguished life which lasted until August 1958 and became Kings Lynn depot's celeberated "Royal Claud", the principal engine at that depot chosen for working the Royal Trains to and from Sandringham when Royalty was visiting the estate there.
Even in its later years 62614, as it became in 1949, was kept in pristine condition by the staff at Kings Lynn during the twelve years allocated there."
