1107 1949-07-15 Folkestone Harbour
Ex-South Eastern & Chatham Railway Wainwright 'R1' class 0-6-0 Tanks Nos. SR 1107 and SR 1337 whilst SR 1708 is an ex-London Chatham & Dover Railway Kirtley 'R1' class 0-4-4 Tank. Withdrawn in Aug. 1959, Feb. 1960 and Oct. 1952 respectively. Other than the famous Lickey incline in Worcestershire, Folkestone Harbour was (I think!) the only other location where multiple tank engines were coupled together to perform their tasks, as here in July 1949. What a splendid sound and sight they must have made and no admission charge either!
