31010 1954c Ashford

31010 kept its Stirling rounded cab and had its chimney cut-down for working through Tyler Tunnel on the Whitstable branch
Photo' taken on one of the shed roads at Ashford MPD. I would date this circa 1954 and just prior to the R1's overhaul at Ashford Works before she went to Folkestone Junction to assist her sisters on the Harbour Branch....where she remained until withdrawal.

Note the 'Z' 0-8-0 tank parked ahead of the R1. These Loco's were transfered away from Ashford during the mid 50's, initially this one went to Templcombe in December 1954 before settling at Exmouth Junction where they worked out their lives as banking engines between Exeter St Davids and Exeter Central.
