Cardiff Cathays in 1960, It was converted about 1958-59 to a DMU depot. Due to the late delivery of units from Pressed Steel for the new London outer suburban services, a number of Cardiff Cathays units were moved to the London Area. E79510 was one of about twenty South Gosforth units loaned to Cardiff Cathays (88A) as replacements, for about four months in 1959/60, as they were surplus to the winter timetable requirements on the North Eastern Region. They were used on the Cardiff Valley services, as they were not fitted with ATC.
