3260 1936-06-27 Sandy

Sandy in Bedfordshire is where, for a short distance, the former L&NWR Bedford to Cambridge 'Varsity' route (closed in 1968) and the GNR lines that are now part of the ECML run in parallel for about half a mile but do not connect. Both companies had separate but adjacent stations with a shared island platform, this is now merged into one station. A busy scene at Sandy as ex-GNR Ivatt 'C2' 4-4-2 No. 3260 approaches the station with an up train. It is passing an up freight train with Gresley 'K3' 2-6-0 No. 113 in charge. Another freight is also in view heading north behind an unknown engine. 'Klondike' No.3260 was built at Doncaster in June 1903 as GNR No. 260 and withdrawn in Sept. 1936.
