43119 1950s Redbourn near Harpenden

43119 1950s Redbourn near Harpenden

David Ford says"43119 on the 'Nickey' line, the Harpenden to Hemel Hempstead branch for which she (and her sister 43121 to a lesser extent) was the regular engine from 1955 to around 1960. She has just breasted the summit on the climb up from Redbourn working what looks like the evening trip from Hemel to Harpenden with vans which would be mostly John Dickenson's paper mill traffic. The photographer is standing where Roundwood Lane, Harpenden, crossed the line by means of an occupation crossing before petering out in the fields. This was part of my playground as a child!"
