30036 1951-04 St Budeaux
M7 class 0-4-4T No 30036 approaches St.Budeaux Victoria Road with a Plymouth Friary to Tavistock North local in April 1951.
Peter Kerslake says "A delightful image of Plymouth Friary's 30036 heading away westbound through Plymouth St. Budeaux Victoria Road station bound for Tavistock North, the Southern Region's station at that town, the former G.W.R. station there being Tavistock South !
The lines in the foreground are the Western Region's main line down through St. Budeaux Ferry Road station and heading westwards to the Royal Albert Bridge and across the River Tamar into Cornwall, but this working will head up along the eastern bank of that river via Bere Ferrers and Bere Alston to Tavistock North.
This duty will have started at the Southern Region's Plymouth Friary station which dated from July of 1891 before joining the Western Region main line at Lipson Junction and then calling at that Region's North Road station.
Not many towns the size of Tavistock would have enjoyed the luxury of two stations at this time!"
