GWR gas turbine No 18100 passes Taplow with the 4.15pm Bristol-Paddington express on 18th July 1952.
Peter Kerslake says "An 'early in life' image of the Metropolitan Vickers Gas Turbine 18100 dated the 18th. July 1962 heading back to Paddington via Bath and Chippenham with the 4:15 p.m. "Bristolian" from Bristol Temple Meads, the return working from the morning's down "Merchant Venturer".
18100 would already have run down to Bristol from London on the 2:30 a.m. to Bristol, returning at 7:45a.m. following a turn round at Bath Road M.P.D., these duties on the Bristol line continuing until the 2nd of August 1952 when 18100 on the 4th of that month commenced duties between Paddington and Plymouth, a role which it always been planned to undertake."
