7248 1955c Shrewsbury
A visitor from 87E Landore. Has it arrived via the Central Wales line or Hereford? The 24.5T loco coal wagon has a plate attached that says 'Return to Oakdale Colliery Western Region For Motive Power Coal'
A splendid shot of an impressive looking 7248 at Shrewsbury , one of Landore shed's complement of six of the class , a total which that Depot shared at this period in time with Llanelly , although neither establishment could equal Newport Ebbw Vale which had no less than thirteen of these massive heavy freight locomotives , thereby gaining the distinction of holding the most of the class on its books in early 1956 .
The raised framing over the cylinders shows clearly in this fine view , as does the enlarged coal bunker , features incorporated when the engines entered service as rebuilds from the original and smaller 2-8-0 class of " 5205 " during the period from 1934 to 1939 , this particular engine being one of the fourteen of the third and final series of rebuilds referred to then as the " 7240 " series , and which had strangely had been rebuilt from a number of the earlier and older " 5205 " engines
