7221 1960s Banbury

7221 1960s Banbury

No shedplate but displaying a painted 88J allocation.

Withdrawn in November 1964 and sold to J. Friswell of Banbury who cut it up at the rear of Banbury shed by early May 1965.

Looking rather the worse for wear Heavy Tank 7221 is here at Banbury , but my records do not show that this particular member of the class was not one of the seven allocated to Banbury in 1960 , and she has no shedplate in position in this view.
Designed initially for use on heavy mineral and freight workings in their native Wales the members of the class worked limestone freights whilst at Banbury , but they had all gone back home to various Welsh Depots by the end of 1964 .
Banbury had been an important Depot in earlier years , its location between the East Midlands , the North and the South Coast providing an essential facility during the last war , and the Depot lasted until the end of 1966 .
