Whilst at Banbury these heavy former Welsh freight locomotives worked primarily on the limestone freights , mineral and coal workings having been tasks for which the class had been designed for during their earlier lives spent at a number of Welsh Depots .
All members of the class had gone from Banbury, however, by the end of 1964 , having been returned to such Depots as Aberdare, Neath and Severn Tunnel Junction, areas more familiar to the locomotives.
Banbury Motive Power Depot remained open to steam until the end of 1966 with a variety of Motive Power on its books, including a number of Standard Class Nines, and the facility had been given an extended spell of steam operations when as late as Septmber 1965 eight "Britannias" were sent to Banbury from Oxley, Crewe and Holyhead for a period of four months .
Whilst at Banbury the four "Britannias" worked on GCR lines between Nottingham Victoria and Marylebone on passenger rosters, in addition to appearing on local services as well.
