7222 1964 Glyn Neath
Running bunker first and with a rather sad looking fireman on board , 7222 heads a typical heavy Welsh freight through Glyn Neath , probably with coal or minerals in the open wagons , together with a couple of tank wagons in the centre.
Although primarily associated with South Wales , these impressive and capable engines could also be seen on freights working farther afield before they were later replaced by 2-8-0 tende engines , and three of the class went down to Newton Abbot for a short spell for use on the South Devon banks, whilst later in 1958 number 7253 was used as the Lickey Incline banker at Bromsgrove although its bulk and restricted platform clearances soon proved its unsuitability for such duties
