A line-up of three Class ‘47’ diesel-electrics show that the era of the Western Region’s hydraulics was coming to an end, although the Class ‘52’s would keep going until 1977. On the right, No. 1647, had been on the Western from new in 1965, moving to Old Oak Common from Landore in October 1970 and then on to Bristol Bath Road a year later, before returning to South Wales at Cardiff Canton in July 1972. In 1974 it became No. 47063 and worked until 1995.
