The �Western� hydraulics were replaced on the Paddington-West Midlands services with Brush �Type 4s� by early 1964. No.D1712 departs northwards past the North Signal Box relay house. Whereas the design of the original North signal box which it replaced looked very precarious standing on a single row of columns with the cabin cantilevered on either side, the replacement took the more conventional route of having two sets of columns either side of track supporting the building above.
