1533 1970-08-08 Kensington Olympia

Despite displaying a 6S45 headcode, this southbound freight headed by No. 1533 on 8th August 1970 is definitely not the Anglo-Scottish Northfleet to Uddingston cement service! Based on the fact that the Class 47 was an Eastern Region locomotive at the time, this lengthy inter-regional freight, consisting predominantly of vans, could be a cross-London working from Temple Mills Yard to either Hither Green or Norwood. No. 1533 had been at several Eastern Region depots since built in August 1963 and had been transferred in May 1970 to York. It was renumbered to No. 47425 in March 1974, named Holbeck in 1986 and withdrawn in 1993.

Having already established that this is definitely not 6S45, which at this time was the headcode used for the Holborough to Uddingston cement (not ex-Northfleet as I originally stated, although it did start from there in later years and was routed via the West London Line for a while), and having studied further WTT information for this period, I might be able to offer a plausible candidate as to what this Saturday working might be. A strong contender is that it is 8O41, the 08:00 SO Temple Mills to Norwood (arr. 9:53am), which was due through "Kenny-O" around 9am. The ER-based Class 47 would return with 8E29, the 11:07 off Norwood (due through "Kenny-O" around 11:40am). This would have been a nice out-and-back turn for the Stratford crew.
