Running in from Derby Works when only partially painted, an unusual occurance. 3C48 was the empty newspaper train returning to London from Nottingham London Road departing at 10.03am and arriving leicester at 10.44am. The test loco ran light engine from Derby to Nottingham then coupled to front of train for the run to Leicester. In the late 70's the usual passenger running in turn arrived at Leicester about 12.20 and the ex works pilot came off there. 24134 has had the cab front doors welded up but carries a side grill from the first batch with the horizontal rib.
