JA recalls that one day the Up Anglo Scottish car carrier train hauled by a Peak failed at Alnmouth and the loco uncoupled and limped into the yard. The only available loco was one of Alnmouths' K1s with Driver Johnny Campbell and Fireman Tony Anderson, it was in light steam and diagramed for the Alnwick branch freight. It was duely coupled to the train and took it to Newcastle Station in 45 minutes. It was serviced at Gateshead then returned LE to Alnmouth in time to perform the rostered branch freight. When Alnmouth shed closed North Blythe took over the workings, engines running LE from there to Alnmouth.
