D201 1960-07-30 Hatfield
An express originating from Newcastle including through coaches from the Tyne Commission Quay. The yard has a good supply of fish vans, I doubt if they were already downgraded to parcels traffic.
Francis Knight says "I spent 1963-70 travelling daily through Hatfield to 'big school', and often pondered the small modern office annexe built onto the goods shed on the Up side, bearing a Ross Fish sign. There never seemed to be much activity at that time, but maybe the fish vans in the photo are related? I wonder if anyone remains who remembers the ins and outs of operating Hatfield? It would make for an interesting book. 3 signal boxes, and a yard either side of the running lines, and terminating trains to turn and work across 4 running lines".
