1024 1959c Dawlish
County 4-6-0 No.1024 County of Pembroke comes along the sea wall east of Dawlish with an up holiday express in c1959.
Peter Kerslake says "1024 had been one of three of the class allocated to Chester in the late 1950s and the LMR style '839' Reporting Number indicates a working to Wolverhampton .
Dawlish station is out of view on the extreme left, and Rockstone footbridge is just visible behind the last coach, possibly with a section from the Torbay line having been added to those from Plymouth and beyond at Newton Abbot. I cannot help regarding the structure on the cliff top which puzzles me somewhat! Of interest is the wartime observation post on the cliff top , one of two constructed to maintain watch over these waters with the ever present threat to the main line from German E Boats in the waters off the coast."
