1012 1955-09-09 Dainton

County 4-6-0 No 1012 County of Denbigh approaches Dainton summit with a down express which has a number of empty restaurant cars on September 9, 1955.

Peter Kerslake says "With an impressive exhaust Laira's 1012 County of Denbigh is working hard as it heads for home and approaches Dainton tunnel at the summit of the westbound climb with its 1 in 36 gradient.
Newton Abbot have not provided a pilot engine although the load is near the maximum for an unassisted County between there and Plymouth, but the driver looks pretty relaxed especially as the worst is now over and the tunnel is within his sight just yards away.

The board visible on the left calls on descending freights to halt and pin down brakes on unfitted workings running down the bank to Aller Junction ahead."
