3050 1900s Westbourne Park MPD

3050 1900s Westbourne Park MPD

Great Western Railway Dean '3031' or 'Achilles' class 4-2-2 No. 3050 'Royal Sovereign'. Built at Swindon in February 1895 and withdrawn in December 1915.

The wonderful lines of William Dean's 'Achilles' class singles are clear to see in this fine circa 1900 broadside view of 'Royal Sovereign' at Westbourne Park MPD, Paddington. Beyond the boundary wall is the Atlas Works of engineers Henry Clayton & Co. and the forbidding workhouse buildings of the 1847 built Westbourne Green Workhouse.

Restored from an original period 8"x10" print.
