Ex-LNER Gresley 'J39/3' class 0-6-0 No. 64978. Built at Darlington in April 1941 as LNER No. 3088 and withdrawn in December 1962. It's April 1954 and 4:35 in the afternoon at West Hartlepool MPD. The piles of ash and char really need removing but that hasn't happened in a while it would seem. Commendably smart 64978 with an ex-NER tender attached, simmers outside in the sunshine. One of 289 of these thoroughly modern and highly capable mixed traffic 0-6-0s.
