J39 1930s Hatfield Peverel

J39 1930s Hatfield Peverel

Unidentified LNER Gresley 'J39' class 0-6-0 and ex-Great Eastern Railway 'D15' class 4-4-0. LNER 8869 was a ‘D15’ from Jan. 1922 and a ‘D15/2’ from July 1928 and eventually a ‘D16/3 from June 1934. It was re-numbered 2540 in 1946.

A busy pre-WW2 scene at Hatfield Peverel in Essex sees a 'J39' 0-6-0 and and 'D16' 4-4-0 with express freight trains. Interestingly the PO coal wagons in the yard are all from northern collieries, Bolsover in Derbyshire also Denaby and Maltby both in South Yorkshire. The view is from Terling Road overbridge looking SW.
