This is a fascinating view! The pair of Cromptons are on a Fawley oil train, and are away from home soil, a view looking NW from Bromford Lane bridge at the east end of the Washwood Heath Yards. Thanks to Vic Smith for finally cracking this one! I have not straightened it up as to do so would lose the gasometer. The headcode is BC. Estimated Date. The 2 x 33 worked the 22.55 Fawley to Bromford Bridge (Esso Sdgs). The locos remained at Bromford Bridge whilst the tanks were discharged, and returned with the empty train at 07.49. This was one of the heaviest trains to be seen in the Birmingham area at this time, normally consisting of 54 x 45 ton tanks plus a SR Queen Mary bogie brake van. Basingstoke men may have started the train off, but by the time it got down here it was definitely worked by Didcot men. However David Morgan asks if it would it have been worked by Banbury staff? There was also a Q path for an 04.49 from Fawley, returning at 13.35. This could be the one in this shot.Ed Purcell adds - Usually with a 9F at the front, this train was one of the more thunderous in its ascent of the Lickey with a couple of bankers at least.
