H class 31548 propels the 4pm Gravesend Central-Allhallows train out of Sharnal Street station on 31st August 1958. The train is formed of ex-LBSCR pull-push set 729 -coaches 6202 (Trailer Composite) and 3826 (Driving Brake Third, now Second). Note also the Westinghouse banner repeater starting signal just before the bridge in the background — the 'proper' rail-built starting signal was obscured beyond the bridge. The sidings beyond the overbridge connected with the Chattenden Naval Tramway and the Kingsnorth Light Railway, both of which served military or naval establishments.
Sharnal Street served as the terminus of the line for a few months in 1882 and was effectively the station for the village of Hoo St. Werburgh, about a mile to the south along the A228 road, which crossed the railway by the bridge seen beyond the station.
