GWR Castle No 5043 Earl of Mount Edgcumbe passes Dolphin Junction, Slough on the slow (relief ?) line with an up express on 5th May 1940.
Peter Kerslake says "5043's cabside window has been plated over to preventing glow from the firebox at night during wartime.
The five coaches all have roof boards, and the leading van is a 'Python' motor car or CCT van."

Keith Morris says "Note the extensive "Suttons Seeds" testing grounds behind the train - the company were based in Reading for many years. Their Slough grounds were sold in the 1960s and is now housing".
