5061 1962-09-09 Cardiff Canton shed
A nearly abandoned Cardiff Canton shed with 5061 and 6630 on 9 September 1962. The empty yard affords a good view of the unique coaling stage with its extension gantry to allow coaling on two roads. Keith Morris adds "The coaling extansion was a WW2 addition I think"
Peter Kerslake says "A sad scene at what had been the major locomotive depot at Cardiff, renowned in its glory days for the manner in which it turned out its main line passenger engines in pristine condition for their Top Link duties to Paddington in particular.
It's September 1962, the final month in which Canton operated and most of its allocation of locomotives have gone to East Dock depot where sadly they were far less well looked after than whilst at Canton."
