GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 4073 Caerphilly Castle stands at Marshfield station with an unidentified train on May 16, 1952. Peter Kerslake says "This is between Cardiff and Newport on the main South Wales line and 4073 was a Bristol engine at this time. It was transferred to Cardiff Canton in February 1957 from where it was condemned in May 1960. Following withdrawal 4073 was restored at Swindon Works after spending seven months there and in June 1961 was moved by road to the Science Museum in London. Whilst at Bristol 4073 was a regular sight down in the West country and was often at Plymouth rostered to passenger and express parcels duties from and to Bristol." Photo: R.O.
