7016 1963-05-19 Cardiff East Dock

GWR Hall 4-6-0 No 4952 is behind Castle 7016 with 5097 stored beyond, all without number and nameplates at Cardiff East Dock shed on 19 May 1963. East Dock shed was officially closed in March 1958, but then reopened in Sept 1962 to take Canton's steam allocation. Can't be many sheds reopened after being closed for 4 years!

Peter Kerslake says "Following Cardiff Canton's closure in September 1962 its allocation of locomotives were sent over to East Dock, an establishment rather like Bristol's St. Philip's Marsh, a freight locomotive depot with little or no work especially for any "Castles" that found their way there.
This is the sad result with 7016 "Chester Castle", a Welsh engine from August of 1948 now condemned."
