GWR Castle 4-6-0 No 4082 Windsor Castle with the GWR Royal Train taking part in the Stockton & Darlington Railway Centenary procession on July 2, 1925.

Peter Kerslake says "One of the best known "Castles" due to its association with The Royal Family 4082 "Windsor Castle", seen her at the Stockton and Darlington Centenary event in 1925 was also earlier honoured when in April of 1924 it had been driven from Swindon Works to the nearby station by the late King George V accompanied on the footplate by Queen Mary following their tour of the Works.
A favourite during its early years whenever there was a Royal Train running on the G.W.R. this locomotive was awaiting overhaul at Worcester Works when King George VI died in early 1952 and a hasty transfer of its plates was made with Worcester shed's own 7013 "Bristol Castle", then fresh from overhaul, in order for the funeral train could appear to be headed from Paddington to Windsor by "Windsor Castle".
The two "Castles" never regained their true identities with the origiinal 7013 in the guise of 4082 being withdrawn from Gloucester in August of 1964 and 7013, the original 4082, lasting until February of 1965."
