Castle class 4-6-0 No 7023 Penrice Castle being prepared to work the 4.45pm express to Paddington at Canton shed, Cardiff on December 2, 1956.

Peter Kerslake says "The two Motive Power Depots at Swansea's Landore and Cardiff 's Canton enjoyed a reputation of turning out their Top Link engines in first class order during their glory years in the 'fifties and Canton's cleaners have really excelled themselves this day with their own 7023 "Penrice Castle" looking her very best.
With indications of a recent visit to Swindon Works 7023 was booked to take the 4.45pm. to Paddington this day, most probably working back home again to Cardiff later that same night.
7023 remained at Canton until August of 1960, then being reshedded at Worcester before finding a final home at Wolverhampton's Oxley from June of 1964, being withdrawn from Oxley in February of 1965 .
