111 1952-04-13 Uphill Junction
Castle class 4-6-0 No 111 Viscount Churchill at Uphill Junction with an afternoon Taunton to Paddington express in 1951.
Peter Kerslake adds "A splendid portrait of 111 "Viscount Churchill" heading towards Bristol Temple Meads at Uphill Junction where the line into Weston super Mare diverges away from the direct line into Temple Meads .
Most interestingly, a published copy of this very same photograph in "The Power of the "Castles" book from the Oxford Publishing Company tells us that this is a Sunday working on the 13th April 1952 and that it has started from Plymouth, which would make sense as 111 was shedded at Plymouth's Laira Depot at that time.
"Viscount Churchill" was getting old by this date and this eight coach Sunday working will not tax it too greatly, the engine having been built using parts form "The Great Bear" in January of 1924.
111 was sadly withdrawn from Laira in July of 1953. "
