5072 1956-04-21 Cardiff Canton

Castle class 4-6-0 No 5072 Hurricane gets a clean at Canton depot on 21 April 1956, the person perched on the ejector pipe doing the work looks a little old to be a cleaner so I suspect he is a proud driver.

Peter Kerslake says "In its heyday Cardiff Canton excelled in keeping its "Castles" in tip top condition, competing in the cleanliness stakes with its close rival at Swansea's Landore depot, both depots rostering their finest to the principal express workings between South Wales and Paddington.
Canton's 5020 "Trematon Castle" in the background is equally as well turned out as 5072 "Hurricane", 5072 lasted in service until October of 1962 whilst 5020 was condemned in the following month".
