GWR Castle class 4-6-0 No 4096 Highclere Castle passes Cowley Bridge Junction with the down 'Torbay Express' on September 3, 1958.

Peter Kerslake says "Such a fine location here at Cowley Bridge Junction with the Southern Region line to North Cornwall and to Plymouth via Okehampton diverting off to the left but the river Exe seen below the bridge floods this area regularly.
The distinctive Cowley Bridge Hotel has appeared in so many photographs over many years and a work stained 4096 "Highclere Castle" heads down to Newton Abbot and Kingswear on the twelve noon "Torbay Express" from Paddington. Old Oak Common and Newton Abbot depot shared the "Torbay" workings, with Newton Abbot's "Castles" invariably looking better than those of Old Oak".
