Castle class 4-6-0 No 5047 Earl of Dartmouth passes through High Wycombe with the 6.30am Birkenhead Woodside to Paddington express on October 14, 1958.

Peter Kerslake adds " Looking absolutely immaculate and a credit to her home shed at Wolverhampton, 5047 "Earl of Dartmouth" is clearly fresh from overhaul at Swindon Works and in new colours with a flush sided Hawkesworth tender in this fine image from October of 1958 .
This is an express from the Wolverhampton line, bound for Paddington, and her driver is at his cabside window, and there is an empty Reporting Number Frame in place on the smokebox door. That high wall providing a fine background to images such as this".
